Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

SUMAGRIS: Sumatran Journal of Agriculture Science implements a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, and scientific contribution of all published articles. The journal adopts a double-blind peer review system, in which both the authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the evaluation process.

Initial Evaluation

All submitted manuscripts are first evaluated by the editorial team to ensure alignment with the journal’s scope, compliance with submission guidelines, and adherence to ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without external review.

Peer Review Stage

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and timely feedback regarding the scientific quality, methodology, clarity, and significance of the study.

The review process focuses on evaluating:

  • Originality and novelty of the research
  • Relevance to agricultural science and sustainability
  • Methodological rigor and validity
  • Clarity of presentation and structure
  • Contribution to theory and practice

Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers’ comments, the editor will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept without revision
  • Minor revision
  • Major revision
  • Reject

Authors are required to revise their manuscripts according to reviewer comments and provide a clear response to each point raised during the review process.

Final Decision and Publication

The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief based on the revised manuscript and reviewers’ recommendations. Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, layout, and publication.

Review Timeline

SUMAGRIS strives to complete the peer review process efficiently while maintaining quality. The typical review timeline is:

  • Initial screening: 1–2 weeks
  • Peer review process: 2–4 weeks
  • Revision by authors: 1–2 weeks
  • Final decision: within 4–8 weeks after submission

Ethical Considerations

All reviewers and editors are required to follow ethical guidelines, maintain confidentiality, and avoid conflicts of interest. Any suspected ethical misconduct will be handled in accordance with COPE standards.

SUMAGRIS ensures a fair, transparent, and high-quality peer review process to support scientific excellence in agriculture.
