Publication Ethics

The Sumatran Journal of Community Empowerment is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. This statement is based on the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies to all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

1. Duties of Authors

  • Authors must ensure that their work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration elsewhere.
  • All sources of data and references must be properly cited to avoid plagiarism.
  • Authors must provide accurate data and avoid fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of research findings.
  • Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the research.
  • Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest.

2. Duties of Editors

  • Editors are responsible for deciding which articles are suitable for publication based on academic merit.
  • Editors must evaluate manuscripts fairly without discrimination based on race, gender, or institutional affiliation.
  • Confidentiality of submitted manuscripts must be strictly maintained.
  • Editors must avoid conflicts of interest and recuse themselves when necessary.

3. Duties of Reviewers

  • Reviewers must provide objective, constructive, and timely feedback.
  • Manuscripts must be treated as confidential documents.
  • Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited.
  • Any conflicts of interest must be declared to the editor.

4. Publication Decisions

The editorial team ensures that all manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer-review process. Decisions are made based on the manuscript’s originality, clarity, relevance, and contribution to the field of community empowerment and sustainable development.

5. Plagiarism and Ethical Misconduct

All submissions are checked for plagiarism using appropriate detection tools. Any form of plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical research practices will result in rejection or retraction of the article.

6. Data Transparency and Reproducibility

Authors are encouraged to provide access to research data where applicable to support transparency and reproducibility of the research findings.

7. Ethical Oversight

Research involving human participants, communities, or sensitive data must comply with ethical standards and obtain necessary approvals from relevant institutions.
